Good parenting

Copied from my MySpace blog. Originally posted August 15, 2006

A few days ago, my wife and I were lined up to renew our health cards. There was a group of kids running around, absolutely out of control. The three kids ranged in age from about 3 to 8.

Then their mother decided to take control of the situation and shouted

"if you kids don't calm down right now, you won't get your iced cappuccino from Tim Hortons!"

At first, I thought this woman must be crazy. Calm down, or you won't get a great big cup of sugar and caffeine. I mean, according to an unreliable source that I found online, there is 87 mg of caffeine in that stuff. Should a three year old really be drinking that kind of beverage? What ever happened to apple juice? Or water?

Then I thought about it, and realized that this woman was in fact a very good mother. She was practicing preventative maintenance. She must have read Rebecca's blog entry about the recent study that shows that coffee can counteract alcohols poisonous effects on the liver and help prevent cirrhosis.

But wait? She is concerned about her three year old's liver? Well, she should be, if she is also taking the right steps to protect the poor kid's prostate. Apparently, accoring to another study quoted by Rebecca, there is an ingredient in beer that can help prevent prostate cancer. Approximately 17 beers a day will help to keep the old prostate cancer free.

So, I feel bad for thinking bad things about this mother for feeding her kids buckets full of sugar and caffeine. Obviously this is to protect their liver from all the beer she is feeding them to protect their prostates.

This lady is a shining example of loving parenting. I plan to follow her example. So while my son is napping, I'll pop out to Tim Hortons and the Beer Store for some supplies. Why are you looking at me like that? It's not like I'm leaving him alone while I go out. I'm leaving the dog to watch over him.

Well, maybe she is using the cappucino like Ritalin-a stimulant to activate a different part of the brain, and probably way cheaper than a prescription!,LOL

BTW...I guess I'll have to keep that research in mind for my kids, haha

Funny stuff. I work with a lady who likes to give her six year old boy frappiccinos. Wouldn't it be nice if parents had to take a mandatory "basic parenting" class before a kid reaches a certain age?

Health card? Tim Hortons? The beer store? Ye gads man! You must be Canadian....

Wait. You are Canadian! How un-American.

So..... How do I become Canadian?

Anyway, in regard to Canada and beer. I drank this stuff in Nova Scotia called Keith's. It is actually pretty good stuff, but they have the LAMEST, or had the lamest slogan. Wait for it......

"KEITH'S. THOSE WHO LIKE IT, LIKE IT ALOT."

I love Canada.

Wow...It's crazy how many kids come into Tim Hortons everyday ordering an Iced Capp...I'm guilty of giving them to my 5 year sister and I regret it soon after...But for a mother to tell her already untamable kids that if they wont settle down they wont be getting an Iced Capp is completly crazy...lol

Beer in the States is like sex in a canoe. Fucking close to water.

I would agree, coming from Bavaria myself, but live in the south for a few years, and tell me you dont drink American beer. Its so damn hot outside, i cant drink more than a few of those traditional, thick bavarian brews. In actuality i kind of prefer a watered down beer in this heat.

No it isn't. We import beer from everywhere.

I know what that mother meant. . . . Instead of saying I am going to give it to you when you get home and reveal herself to the other waiting on line, she used treats withheld to get the childrenâs attention. I am sure the mother would have loved to reward the childrenâs behavior and not just give in to their demands. NEVER give children caffine unless you have a rubber room for them

Maybe she wires them up so they crash and go to sleep longer/sooner. Sure beats making them drink Nyquil!

No it goes: American beer is like having sex on a canoe, so damn close to water.
Teach a man how to fish and he will feed himself for a day, teach a Canadian how to fish and he will sit on a canoe and drink beer all day.

Sad but true...I once monitored a small group of children (about 4 years in age) for a research survey, where the children have to be quiet for about four hours (yea right!). My friend and I had one child who walked in with a big thermos, grinning ear to ear. He said " I have my favorite drink in here!". My friend said "OH, Hot chocolate!". He said "NO! Cappuccino!! I love it!!" Needless to say that blew the whole sitting quietly plan!!

you have a piont although as a person who has had a can of coke in their hand since they were five it doesn't work that way at all.sleep patterns of a child atleast this one were unaffected one way or the other by cafine and sugar. I do how recall a story about tiny amounts of beer and lager amounts of peanutbutter to get me to go to sleep or so the story goes. my only concequence from it all seems to a weight problem.
